MF Laurent Côtes du Rhône 3-Pack
Son of the legendary Michèle Aubery Laurent, Maxime-François, one of the couple’s three children, joined the estate in 2006 and has been integral in applying the tenets of biodynamic viticulture to the vineyard.
While only a few years ago it would have been fair to consider wines like this that are bottled under his own name to be the second wines of Domaine Gramenon, but these days they are now truly the equal in quality (and unfortunately price).
The 2019 La Rubiconde is a more serious wine from Maxime François Laurent. Along with deep, luscious dark fruit flavours, it emphasises the garrigue aromas often found in the best wines from this beautiful corner of the Rhône Valley.
The 2019 Champsaurel is from a small classified village in the Côtes-du-Rhône called Rousset-les-Vignes. It is made from 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah, grown on sandier soil. The result is a lightly textured, succulent, softer style with delicious primary fruit.
The 2019 Orpiment is 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah. It smells of flowers, cassis, rocks, hearth, licorice and garrigue but it also has the black olive thing that you expect from Northern Rhône Syrah. There is real concentration and depth here with a finish that is pure, long and refreshing.
All are delicious and unfortunately there is very little to go around.
