2020 Havilah Gewurtztraminer
Havilah is there fun, quirky sibling of Ricky Evans' Two Tonne Tasmania. These are wines made with fruit from around the Tamar Valley grown by like-minded vignerons, as opposed to Ricky himself. It means the same feverish dedication to quality is applied to a series of wines that are a little more easily attainable.
For this skin contact Gewurtztraminer, grapes go through a whole bunch carbonic maceration for ten days, then into old barrels for a six month rest. Unlike some varieties, skin contact tends to tame the fruit in Gewurtz, making it more savoury and less aromatic. A good thing really.
