2020 William Downie Gippsland Pinot Noir
William Downie has been making pinot noir under his eponymous William Downie label since 2003. Downie’s Pinot Noir comes from sites around Gippsland, and is crafted by the hands of this Pinot master. A blend of grapes from Matthews Vineyard (Berry’s Creek, South Gippsland), and fruit from Downie’s own estate in Baw Baw Shire (West Gippsland), this is true Gippsland terroir, bottled.
This Pinot is complex, with fruit-forward aromas of blackcurrant, raspberry, blackberry, and allspice. Slight minerality and stoniness is imparted from the volcanic earth, a signature of Downie’s wines.
And the bottle artwork is by none other than the legendary Australian artist Reg Mombassa no less.
