2020 Havilah Real Light Red
Havilah is there fun, quirky sibling of Ricky Evans' Two Tonne Tasmania. These are wines made with fruit from around the Tamar Valley grown by like-minded vignerons, as opposed to Ricky himself. It means the same feverish dedication to quality is applied to a series of wines that are a little more easily attainable.
This is one of those moments when traditional categories of red, rosé and orange seem totally inadequate for modern wine styles. The Real Light Red is a blend of Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Gewurztraminer co-fermented, some whole bunch, some destemmed. It's destined for the fridge and then probably the couch. It is what it is. And what it is is delicious.
