2019 Scala ‘Ciro’ Rosato
In in the often murky world of Calabrian wine, Scala have been a shining light since being established in the middle of the 20th century, fighting to preserve local grape varieties and the wines of Ciro. Anyone with an interest in the traditional wines of Italy should have a look at these great value, old-school wines.
The Scala rosato is produced from Gaglioppo (a local red variety) given a short maceration and aged in stainless steel. Rose-gold is the best way to describe the colour of this wine, it has gentle sweet red fruit and a good dose of salinity – send in the antipasti.
