2019 Gut Oggau Josephine
The Gut Oggau winery, helmed by Eduard Tscheppe and Stephanie Tscheppe-Eselbock, produces magnificent, esoteric and ultimately collectible wines. Taking time to restore an abandoned vineyard in the Burgenland, they have converted their entire estate to biodynamics. Each cuvee label has been designed by artist Jung Von Matt, featuring a fictional family member’s face. The face is meant to represent the personality of the wine inside. They range from young, electric, jovial, to complex, age-worthy and thought provoking.
The beguiling step-mother from everyone’s favourite fictional wine family will leave you with your jaw open. A blend of native grape roesler and classic blaufrankisch, dancing in the moonlight. Bright acidity, the feral edge, finishing with a bunchy crunch. It’s a little different from all the others, but just as charming.
