2019 Barbacán Rosso di Valtellina Chiavennasca
Rosso di Valtellina by Barbacán is a juicy and dynamic wine with flavours of cherries and a background of black pepper. Balanced tannins with acidity for days. It's very drinkable now, but will also be fantastic in a couple of years.
Barbacán; a family of Alpine farmers who are wholly dedicated to cultivating their native indigenous grapes, primarily Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo) but also the other less known vines of Róssola, Rossolino Rosa, Brugnòla, Negrera from 7 hectares of steep ancient terraced vineyards. The Sega family’s farm is located in San Giacomo di Teglio which is in the heart of the Valtellina Valley and produces around 20,000 bottles of truly handmade wine. Valtellina is recognised as one of the last bastions of what the Italian’s like to call ‘heroic’ viticulture.
