2018 Pietracupa Fiano di Avellino
Campania is probably the greatest region in Italy for white wine in the same way that Maradona was probably the greatest football player in Naples. You can debate the the point all you like, but if you disagree you're just plain wrong.
Same goes for Sabino Loffredo at Pietracupa when people talk about the greatest producer of white wines in Campania. Starting in 1993, the quality of his wines was noted early on and it has only gotten better. Both his Fiano and Greco are masterclasses in their respective varieties. But if you haver to choose, the Fiano should be the one.
It tastes of white peach, jasmine, smoke, stoney minerality and has an ability to age for a decade. There's a freshness and vitality here that is rare in Italy, or anywhere else for that matter.
