2018 Envinate 'Táganan' Listan Blanco
Envinate is one of the most interesting collectives to come out of Spain in several years. Four friends who farm vineyards and make wine in a range of largely ignored regions. They are understandably fiercely pro-terroir, relying on traditional methods and excellent viticulture to create wines of depth and complexity.
The Táganan Blanco is made from one of the ancient grapes of Tenerife in the volcanic Canary Islands. It's farmed from incredibly steep slopes that are regularly hammered by the Atlantic winds. As inhospitable as that seems, it creates a wine of precision and savoury umami flavours, body and refreshment.
