2018 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Blanc Chenin Blanc
In 1996, Romain Guiberteau, a flailing law student, decided to take over the management of his family’s vineyards in the village of Samur in France’s Loire Valley. The following year, under the mentorship of Clos Rougeard’s Nady Foucault, Romain made 5,000 bottles of wine. He sold them easily and his wines are now some of the most sought after in France.
The domaine is 9.4 hectares, 7 of which are located in the great terroir of Brézé, and was certified organic in 2007. The younger Chenin Blanc vines are bottled into this cuvée but some of the fruit included is from vines up to 85 years-old, This is incredible Chenin with flavours of mixed citrus peel, honey, spice and a wonderfully juicy, pithy palate with a thrilling texture shot through with crystalline, chalky, salty freshness.
