2016 I Vigneri Vinudilice
Salvo Foti is Mt Etna, there is no comparison. Without him there is no modern wine industry in the region - whether producing the wines that put Etna on the vinous map, or offering a helping hand to bring other talented characters onto the volcano. His own estate’s output continues to define the top tier of Sicilian wine. This is the intellectual’s Etna winemaker.
The Vinudilice is made from a hodepodge of grape varieties from one of Europe’s highest altitude vineyards in the commune of Bronte. Usually this is a still rosé but in 2016 Salvo decided to make it sparkling instead. The wine itself is a pale pink-lavender and tows the line between ripeness and freshness perfectly, with bright raspberry along with herbs, spice and wet stone. The acidity is wild.
