2014 Le Coste 'Alea Jacta Est' Aleatico
Made with Lazio's most prolific red variety, Aleatico. The grape is known for thick dark skins and deep, heady perfume; think if Nebbiolo and Muscat had a secret love child. This wine is one of the most consistent and favoured each year from the Le Coste producers and is cited as being one of the clearest, most impressionable examples of a wine made from just Aleatico.
From a somewhat rare vintage, grown from 50 year-old vines rooted in dark volcanic soils. The grapes see a whole bunch carbonic maceration in cement for two months and, after being pressed, continue to ferment for a few weeks. They then age for two years in large format, old oak.
Crisp like cool air and full of perfume, it glitters with wild herbs, cranberry, goji, cedar and fertile soil. Licks of pink lady apple and a vibrancy that puts a blush in any cheek.
