2021 Good Intentions Wine Co. Relatively Red

$35

Relatively Red is the Yang side of Shiraz, juicy, savoury, long and complex texture with refreshing acidity.

A Good Intentions favourite, the Relatively Red has been a Good Intentions staple since the very beginning. Syrah hand-picked, carbonic macerated for a week. Whilst normally de-stemmed, they had a broken de-stemmer during vintage and so it was foot stomped and pressed as whole bunches.

The result is this 2021 wine is still light yet crunchy, self-gleaming with balanced acidity, but with an element of complexity and fuller flavour as a result of pressing with the stems; a nice variation for this year's wine. Fermented and stored in stainless.

One is a farmer, the other a musician, Andrew and Louise, a husband and wife team who moved back to Mount Gambier (Andrew’s childhood town) to start a family and a wine label.

"We wanted to grip the earth with our toes and use our knowledge in organic farming and permaculture to create our own wine label. We wanted to create a community where we could be proud to raise our daughter Frankie. Our dream is to inspire home grown eating, drinking and music that nourishes the land and reflects our personalities and to share it with the community."

FAQ

What is natural wine?

The philosophy of natural wine is one of minimal-intervention, from vineyard to cellar. Natural wines are made using quality grapes, generally grown using organic and biodynamic practices, however vineyards may not always be certified as such due to the restrictive nature of these certification systems. Natural wines in most cases won't be filtered or fined, processes which generally involve the use of animal products.

Are your wines vegan friendly?

In almost all cases yes! Generally if you see "unfiltered and unfined" this will be an assurance that no animal products have been used in the process. The fining process is where conventional winemakers will often use egg and fish products (yep pretty gross) to remove sediment from wines. The sediment is natural, healthy and adds flavour so natural wine makers almost always leave some of it in.

Are your wines chemical free?

Yes, we only stock wines that use grapes grown using biodynamic or organic farming methods and will have none of the over 200 additives that can be found in conventional wines, *with the occasional exception of a tiny amount of sulphur. Some organic winemakers choose to add a small amount of sulphur (SO2) to ensure their wines travel better and last longer.
